Women Power in the Church – beyond ordination | Gespräch zur Frauenordination
Rev. Mary Katagile, (Theological Faculty, Mbeya, Tansania)
Rev.  Dr. J. Dorcas Gordon, Principal Emerita Knox College Canada, President of IAWM (International Association of Women Ministers)
Magdalena Zimmermann, mission 21

In many churches around the world women are ordained, which can be seen as a positive development on the way to gender equality. Even so, many women still face numerous difficulties. In various societies, cultural, patriarchal role models are still characteristic, which tend to locate the tasks of women in the diaconal and educational area less in leadership positions. These ideas also have the effect that ordained women often get jobs that are in the diaconal field, frequently in remote places, perhaps to make them less visible.

«Being Protestant in Europe today, contributing to Reconciliation and unity» (DE/GE)
Annette Kurschus, Chair of the Council of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD)
Emmanuelle Seyboldt, President of the United Protestant Church in France (EPUdF)
Rita Famos, President of the Protestant Church in Switzerland PCS
Serge Fornerod, PCS  | Ulrich Wienhold EPUdF

«Intercultural realities in the context of Churches in Geneva
Rev. Nicolas Monnier, Director DM (Département missionnaire)
Rev. Espoir Adadzi, Togo, CEVAA envoyee in Geneva

Due to the acceleration of the migratory phenomenon and globalization, the intercultural reality of both our society and Christian communities is today a basic data. Between 2017 and end of November 2023, the Protestant Church of Geneva is conducting an experience by welcoming Togolese pastor Espoir Adadzi. His mission: challenging and questioning, from his external point of view, the way our established Churches celebrate their faith, with or without the migration churches.

Rev. Joseph Kassab, General Secretary of the National Evangelical Synod in Syria and Lebanon (NESSL)
Rev. Raffi Messerlian (Union of Armenian Evangelical Churches in the Near East UAECNE)
Marina Dölker, HEKS – Swiss Church Aid / Church Cooperation

For more than two years, Lebanon has been in free fall: economic crisis, hyperinflation and political instability pose major challenges for society and individual lives and families. How can churches provide spiritual support and tangible perspectives for a better future in a context marked by uncertainty and hopelessness? We talk about the current challenges in the country, but also about how churches work towards hope and a future.

Interreligious Peace Building in Nigeria
Dr. Yakubu Joseph, Coordinator of Mission 21 Nigeria
Magdalena Zimmermann, mission 21

Peace work in Nigeria is needed more urgently than ever. The violence of the terrorist militia Boko Haram in the northeast and violent conflicts between different religious groups in central Nigeria have brought suffering to millions of people and permanently disrupted the relationship between Christians and Muslims throughout the country. The poor economic situation and political power struggles in the country contribute to a very tense situation.

Talk and encounter with representatives of the houses of religions in Berne and Puttalam: After giving a short space for the situation in Sri Lanka we exchange about the experiences of the houses of religions in Puttalam, Sri Lanka, and in Berne, Switzerland. A special focus of the talk is put on the specific challenges for the cooperation of religions in very different contexts. Polarizing secular ideologies and religious convictions are a threat for peace; how can interreligious encounters, dialogue and cooperation contribute to consolidate dialogue as a basis of life for society and international relations? www.haus-der-religionen.ch

The three Churches have on this issue an own context and experience, but they do not differ fundamentaly the one from the other in the broader european horizont. 1-2 concrete examples of the Churches  Engagements in social projects will show the chances and limits of each form of social initiatives. A discussion will follow on the theological and ecclesiological questions at stake, as well as on the different spiritual criterias used as discernment tools by the Churches. What does «the radical inclusivity» of Christ mean in this context?
